Firearm transfers

Charlestown

$30 per transfer, no matter how many firearms. Pistols, rifles, shotguns and NFA items. No Form 4 needed for suppressors and SBRs.

  • What we transfer: pistols, rifles, shotguns and NFA items, including suppressors and short-barreled rifles (SBRs).
  • One fee per transfer: $30 covers one Form 4473 and NICS check, so several firearms or items picked up together cost $30 total.
  • No Form 4 required: as of October 9, 2026, ATF no longer requires a Form 4 or NFA registration for suppressors, SBRs, short-barreled shotguns and AOWs. Machine guns and destructive devices still follow full NFA rules.
  • Still required: a Form 4473 and an approved NICS background check at pickup, and you must be an Indiana resident for suppressors and other formerly NFA items.
  • How to ship to us: have your seller send the firearm to our FFL at 9207 County Road 403, Charlestown, IN 47111. See the step-by-step guide.

Federal rules on NFA items can change. We'll confirm the current requirements when you call.

We refill tanks by the gallon at both stores. 16 oz cylinders and torch kits are here too.

The work we do at the counter and out in the neighborhood, in plain language.

  • Year-round delivery. We deliver all year. Same Day, Next Day, and Standard are $4.99 at both stores. New Albany adds $5 for orders over 50 lb. Local delivery.
  • Screen and window repair. Bring in torn screens and broken window panes and we'll fix them.
  • Lock rekeying and car keys. Both stores rekey locks and cut house, padlock and specialty keys. Both duplicate OEM car keys through the Hillman KeyStart / Durakey program. Bring one working key. We do not program unsupported aftermarket keys from Amazon. Keys and rekeying.
  • In-house STIHL service. Both stores are STIHL dealers. We sell the equipment and service it here. STIHL sales and service.
  • Propane tank refills. We refill tanks by the gallon at both stores, and both sell 16 oz cylinders and torch kits. Propane tank refills.
  • Straw. Straw is here when you need it.
  • Grills. A large grill selection, including Recteq, Traeger, Weber and Big Green Egg.
  • Gift shop. Both stores have a gift shop area. Hometown gift ideas include drinkware, rugs, decor, garden flags, Sassafras Switch Mats, popcorn gift sets, Warmies, and squishies. Gift shop.

Two stores, two stories

Every Ace is independently owned, and both of ours belong to the Holmes family. One is the store we opened in Charlestown in 2021. The other is one of the oldest hardware counters in southern Indiana.

A new store for a growing town

Brad and Karla Holmes opened Holmes Ace Hardware on County Road 403 to give Charlestown a full hardware store close to home.

Nearly 90 years on Charlestown Rd

Paul Lee started this business in a garage at Vincennes Street and Charlestown Rd. It became one of the first Ace stores in southern Indiana, and we're proud to keep it going.

  1. 1936Paul Lee opens a hardware shop in a garage behind Stemle's grocery.
  2. c. 1946Eureka Hardware opens at 1905 Charlestown Rd, later joining Ace.
  3. 1985The Staashelm family buys the store.
  4. 2023The Holmes family takes over.
  5. 2024A full store remodel begins June 24, with a new layout and a new sign out front.
